For those that look at the Bourbon Trail map and wonder if a trip out west is worth it, Green River has made that an emphatic yes. Not only are they making excellent spirits, this place is rich with history, and the tour walks you through the rules of Bourbon giving you a first hand opportunity to see it from grain delivery to warehousing on an industrial scale. Built in the 1930s, the origins of this distillery go all the way back to the 1885 when an agent of the Internal Revenue decided to get into the Bourbon making business. The distillery earned a strong reputation for quality, but the facility burned down in 1918, just before Prohibition. The distillery was rebuilt and survived all the way up to the early 1990s when it was abandoned.
The origins of today's distillery come from 2016, when it was refurbished and expanded under the name O.Z. Tyler. In September 2020, the original name was reacquired and in 2022, the first modern Green River Bourbon was released in February. On the tour you will get the full scoop on who the original owners were and how the distillery came back to life. Along the way, you'll see their impressive number of fermenters and their four story column still. There will be some stair climbing throughout the stillhouse, then the tour takes you into one of their uniquely designed warehouses, and into the room where barrels are dumped into the trougth for bottling.
There are plenty of opportunities for photos throughout this tour and at the conclusion, you will be introduced to their current lineup of Green River Bourbon's, which now include the flagship, a wheated Bourbon, and single barrel.
