About Buffalo Trace Distillery
Future tours are only listed for a limited time.
Buffalo Trace whiskey is so awarded and so popular that most of their brands are being sold on allocation. This means you usually have to ask your local retailer to either hold you a bottle or let you know the next time it is coming in. The distillery is in the middle of a major expansion that should help ease some supply versus demand issues in the distant future. For now, Buffalo Trace brands remain high on collector’s lists.
The distillery had a long and storied history going back to 1775 when Hancock and Willis Lee began a distilling operation. You will see banners proudly proclaiming their listing on the National Register of Historic Places; it also holds the designation as a National Historic Landmark. Many of the brands feature the names of former owners and distillers.
The complementary tour features a film history, a walk through the campus, and an extensive focus on warehousing before concluding above the gift shop with a guided tasting. I will warn you though, allocated bourbons are not for sale on site.
As seen in "Experiencing Kentucky Bourbon."
