Old Forester Distilling Co.
About Old Forester Distilling Co.
In 2018, Louisville’s Whiskey Row welcomed Old Forester Distillery back to its original location. But don’t let the size of the distillery location fool you. This is a complete distillery experience-one of the most complete in Kentucky. It even includes the only on-site cooperage in the state.
The Old Forester brand, and its solid reputation go back to 1870, when a medical supply salesman began rectifying whiskey and became the first to seal his bottles. George Garvin Brown was a pioneer in the bourbon industry and they cover his exploits during the tour, including his anti-Prohibition stance.
If you can swing it, plan your tour sometime between Tuesday through Saturday to see the working distillery. If the cooperage is operational, you can see a barrel shaped and fired before your eyes. At noon, I heard them banging a drum out front as they dropped and rolled the barrels up onto the truck. There is also a chance you will see the bottling process. The tour finishes with a guided tasting.
