Born out of the nineteenth century Ripa Brothers Distillery, Wild Turkey has been a staple in bars and American whiskey shops since 1942. Under the stewardship of Master Distiller Jimmy Russell, the brand has grown from Wild Turkey 101 to adding Wild Turkey Rare Breed and Russell’s Reserve to their stable of offerings.
The tour goes into a bit of history, but spends a lot of time on the process. If you want to learn the origin of the name Wild Turkey, check out the walls in the Visitor’s Center.
Because of the campus size, a bus will take you to the production facility. You will climb stairs to reach the huge fermentation room where the Wild Turkey lab, and huge column still. Next, the bus takes you to one of the tall whiskey warehouses, where you get to step inside and smell the angel’s share first hand. The tour finishes with a guided tasting and a beautiful view.
