Kentucky Artisan Distillery
About Kentucky Artisan Distillery
If you are looking for the official home of Jefferson’s Reserve and Jefferson’s Ocean At Sea, this is it. Born as a contract distillery in 2012, Kentucky Artisan produces bourbon the old-fashioned way, using pot stills for quantities as small as two barrels. A local operation, they source their grain from Waldeck Farms, just a mile down the road.
Built as a production facility, it can feel a little homemade when you walk through the tour. When I was there, they showed the distilling process through photographs posted on a corkboard. But then, the distilling process has never been about high tech.
A DirecTV documentary called Bourbontucky drew me to Jefferson’s Bourbon. It featured the bourbon’s creator Trey Zoeller talking about his passion for both history and experimentation. This spirit permeates this facility. The tour guides relay the lore surrounding bourbon and the creative techniques used at the distillery. Don’t be surprised if you see some historic distilling artifacts while on the tour.
