About George Dickel Distillery
One of the great mysteries of Tennessee Whiskey is embodied in the man George Dickel. A wholesale liquor store owner, his ties to the distillery were through the president of his company, Victor "Manny" Shwab. Shawb was so fond of the whiskies produced by distiller Maclin Davis at Cascade Hollow, he purchased half the company and branded the whisky George Dickel's Cascade Hollow and sold it through Dickel's store in Nashville. After Tennessee went into Prohibition, the Dickel name moved to Kentucky, but eventually found its way back to Tennessee in the 1950s. It is now back in the beautiful countryside where its original water source was tapped for the current distillery.
A variety of tour options are available, including a standard tour, a Single Barrel experience, and a Bottled in Bond experience. Each tour progresses through the distillery, where the distillation and charcoal mellowing processes are discussed. Upon returning to the Visitor's Center, you'll enter a private tasting room where you will be served whisky samples. The standard tour includes four samples, including George Dickel's two flagship Tennessee whiskies, their Bourbon and a Barrel Select. You can add to your tasting for an extra fee. Afterwards, you can mail a letter from the distillery's post office.
