But it will definitely give you a feeling like you've stepped into a cathedral of whiskey.
The historic theme hits you immediately when you enter the building. To the left is a room filled with history and stories from Bluffton and the surrounding community. Much of this history was gathered by local historian Melanie Marks, who also researched the origins of the name Burnt Church - a story you're sure to hear on your tour. You will also get insights into the distillery's production process, with a special focus on the distillery's commitment to using locally sourced grains for unique spirits such as their six-grain bourbon and rice whiskey. Drew's Top 3 Reasons to Visit
- Talk about a cathedral of Bourbon. Burnt Church is an absolutely stunning distillery. When you share your visit on your favorite social media platform, prepare to be asked what distillery that is in your photo.
- The Burnt Church focus on local grains is yielding some very interesting spirits. Not only are they using locally grown Carolina Gold rice for their whiskey, they are also developing a new make called Cornbread Red, made from local Jimmy Red Corn. However, this will only be available in limited quantities at the distillery.
- It always feels great to support a business that gives back to their local community. Part of every purchase at the distillery goes into the Lowcountry Legacy Fund to help level the playing field for local under-served Black communities.
