Glengyle Distillery
About Glengyle Distillery
Glengyle Distillery, located in Campbeltown, Scotland, is a relatively young distillery with a history that dates back to 1872. Originally founded by William Mitchell, the distillery operated under the name Glengyle until it was closed in 1925. In 2000, the distillery was revived by Mr. Hedley Wright, a descendant of the Mitchell family, who restored it to its former glory.
The Glengyle Distillery is the home of Kilkerran Single Malt and stands proudly alongside its sister distillery, Springbank. While sharing grounds, Glengyle operates independently, boasting its own distinctive production process, although the distillers are shared between the two distilleries. Because of this, they are usually in production at different times.
On the standard tour, guests delve into the distillery's rich history and are led through each step of whisky production, uncovering the secrets behind Kilkerran's unique character. The tour concludes with a tasting of one of their core range whiskies and a parting gift of a branded glass. The shared gift shop with Springbank serves as the meeting point for tours, allowing visitors to easily experience both distilleries in succession with separate tickets.
